Subject: repair of bass neck

Question
I am in the process of repairing a bass and am about to re attach the neck a bass playing friend mentioned doweling the neck when re-gluing. what's your view?

Answer
Hi David;
If you are gluing the neck into a normal neck block that has a sound tongue and grove you may not need dowel pins. If you have a loose fit you may want to shim up the needed areas and dowels would not be out of order. If you feel that pins are needed use two or three and put them in at angles.
