About Todd Sullivan
Expertise
Hello, I am a NYC violinist performing for Broadway shows, symphony orchestras, opera, and sundry theatre/pop tours. I would be happy to answer your questions about anything related to being a performer in the music business. I play both violin and viola professionally, so questions on playing either instrument are welcome. The only thing I am not well informed on is information concerning instruments/bows...those questions are best left to luthiers.

Experience
Professional experience includes a variety of on/off Broadway tours and shows, numerous orchestras, tours with Ray Charles and Ann Murray orchestras, leader of the 20-piece Todd Sullivan Orchestra.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Fine Arts (violin) with honors from Carnegie Mellon University (1999)

Question
Hello Todd,
I'm slowly learning to play the violin, lol. Do you know where I can buy background music for violin? I see all the "youtube'videos of people playing to background music, but the original soundtrack usually have all instrumental parts. Thank you.

Carl

Answer
If you are searching for classical music backing tracks, these are found under the title "Music Minus One" and can be purchased online or at many music retailers.  They include a cd with both the full performance and the ensemble performance with the excised solo part, as well as the sheet music for the solo part you should play.

If you are referring to popular music/songs, then you should search for karaoke tracks.  There are numerous cds with the backing tracks of popular recordings, the lead vocal track being removed.
