About Al Dzina
Expertise
I can answer questions about violin and guitar making and restoration. I will not answer questions about playing these instruments, because I am a maker, not a player.

Experience
I was trained in violin making in Germany and have been working at this craft for sixty years.

Question
A woman in the Akron area would like to donate her late husband's violin to the University of Akron School of Music.  I noticed that you had answered someone's question about a C.B. Vachon.  This one was made in 1930 (according to the label) and also includes a bow also with a C.B. Vachon stamp.  Aside from a few nicks and scratches, both violin and bow are in very good condition.  The instrument is quite well made from maple with a tight flaming and it has quite a lovely even tone.  Without seeing the instrument, can you give me a ballpark idea of what this violin might be worth, so the donor can declare this on her income tax?  I will be asking for a written appraisal from someone in the area, but I would like to know your opinion.  Thanks for your help.
