Subject: violin repair - sound peg

Question
Hello, I have a Scherl and Roth, Model R300E4, violin that looks to be in excellent condition, however, the sound peg has come loose and is rattling around inside the instrument.  Is this something that I can repair myself?  If not, how might I go about finding someone who could do the repair?  I would like to sell this instrument.  Should I have it repaired before trying to sell it?  Thank you for any help you can offer.  Sincerely, Mary

Answer
Hi Mary;
The sound post is referred to as the soul of the violin. It must be placed at a very exact place by trail and error. If it is in the wrong place the sound will be affected. You must have it repaired before selling it, or it will not sound proper. Send me your City & State and I shall send you to someone that can help.
Al;
