Expert: Helen Date: 4/1/2005 Subject: Day Trip to Bush Gardenss/and Kings Dominion
Question Hi,
I have made reservations to visit Virginia Beach during the summer. I am flying in. Anyhow I realize Bush Gardens, and Kings Dominion are quite a distance from the Virginia Beach area. I am not very brave especially when it comes to driving in unfamiliar areas and states. Therefore I decided "not" to rent a car. Is there any affordable way to get to these attractions otherwise? Are there shuttles or maybe day trips available from a travel agency within Virginia to these locations? I can only imagine my son having a fit if he sees these brochures when we are in Virginia Beach and I have to disappoint him by not having transportation to get there. Thanks for any advice!
Answer Hi Diane,
My first question would be are you staying at a hotel? If so, they may be able to direct you to any day trips. Bush Gardens is about 45 minutes from the beach. It's a very direct drive on RT 64. Kings Dominion is quite a distance from the beach (3 hours) so I'm sure nothing would be available for day trips. May I suggest,Ocean Breeze, a motor and water park for kids. My kids love it and it's right in Virginia Beach. Your child will also enjoy the Virginia Beach Marine Science museum. If your child really wants to go to Bush Gardens, your best bet is to rent a car. You will be at the Gardens for an entire day. It's an easy straight run drive from the beach.Unfortunately, Virginia Beach doesn't have mass transit except for the trolley (which you can take to Ocean Breeze and the science museum) I know you will both have an awesome time. Please let me know if you need any additional help.
