Question I am thinking of relocating to Norfolk from Fort Worth, Texas. I've never lived anywhere else and I'm ready to change my life and start fresh. How is the job market? I am an admin. assist. in the accounting dept. of a state university but I'm open to a new challenge. What is the best way to get a job there? Are government jobs plentiful? What is your best advice on what should be my first step? Are there organizations who can help with this sort of thing? By the way I turned 50 in october and promptly enrolled in college, so I'll want to find a good school also. Help!!!
Answer Greetings,
Well, to begin with Virginia Beach is the largest city in Virginia. It is part of a region called Hampton Roads which consits of the areas of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg. Large area to work with, and great job opportunities. Area colleges which I'm sure will welcome you: Old Dominion U, Virginia Wesleyan, Norfolk State, Hampton U, Christopher Newport, William & Mary, as well as numerous Community Colleges. School wise- you should have no problem.Job wise should also be no problem. This is a military/government town. Several websites you can search are: www.vbgov.com/careers, also www.norfolkjobopenings.net. Hope they help. I am here from New York City and have never resented a day. You will love it! Great area, good jobs and great schools!
Don't hesitate to ask any additional information, if you so decide to move. Helen
