Question
Helen,
My friends and I are planning a trip to Washington DC October 17th-23rd and are wanting to spend a full day looking at fall foliage in either Virginia or West Virginia.  I realize timing is key, but if you could offer any beautiful scenic routes, that would be very helpful!
Thank you for your time!
Lisa :)

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Since I live in Virginia Beach on the water, we don't have much in the way of fall foliage.  I would suggest that if you are visiting DC drive south to the Charlottesville area and the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's a beautiful area and the foliage should be breathtaking. Time-wise, I believe anytime from late September through mid October. In the opposite direction, Colonial Williamsburg is also lovely that time of year, but it's not as mountainous as the other locale.  Hope this is helpful! Helen
