Question
We're coming from London UK to spend 3 weeks in Virginia in July/AUG so excuse our complete ignorance. Can we swim off Virginia beach? How hot is it likely to be? We are spending some time at Shenandoah NP. Will it be cold in the evenings up there?

Answer
Rachel, Virginia Beach is beautiful. You can swim, and enjoy many other water sports in the Atlantic Ocean or the Chesapeake. The weather in July/August will generally be high 80's, low 90's.  In addition to the beautiful beach and surf there are many non-beach related activities that can be enjoyed. You will not be bored!Shenandoah Nat Park is quite a distance from Virginia Beach. It will be a beautiful contrast. It will be much cooler there, especially in the evenings.  You have selected the best of both worlds. Hope this information helps.
