Subject: Virginia Expensive?

Question
Helen,

Is all of Virginia expensive to live in?

I just traveled to Northern Virginia (2004) and was shocked at the high real estate costs there.

The traffic was horrendous too.

Thanks.
Best,
Michael

Answer
Hi Michael,
Northern Virginia is the most expensive area in Virginia.  I live in Virginia Beach (the Southern tip), the Hampton Roads area which is much more affordable but traffic is heavy. Hampton Roads consists of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Portsmouth, Newport News and Williamsburg. Except for Williamsburg, you will find this area quite affordable. (I'm originally from NY so for me it was great)
I'm not familiar with the western coast of Virginia but believe it would be even more less expensive and is quite beautiful. Just avoid Charlottesville if you want to avoid upscale costs.
I don't know where you presently reside, but you will enjoy our area. Hope this helps and let me know if you need any additional information. Helen
