Question
Hi Helen,
My family and I will be going to Williamsburg in April. Could you recommend some things to do? I'll be travelling with 2 youngs boys (5&2) and my mother. We are interested in day trips to Jamestown and Virginia Beach. However, I don't know how the weather is during that time and what is there to do. Would you recommend going to Busch Gardens? I enjoy golfing and wineries. My wife enjoys going out to eat. Any information would be helpful. We are staying at King's Creek Plantation in Williamsburg and will be in VA for a week. Thanks!
~Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,
The weather in April is usually beautiful, and a good time to visit before the crowds. As always, weather is unpredictable, some showers, but generally mid 70's. This is the 400 Anniversary of Jamestown, so there will be an abundance of activities going on. Everyone will enjoy their visit to Jamestown. In Williamsburg, definitely visit Busch Gardens, but depending on when in April your're visiting, check their operating hours. Your mom may enjoy Colonial Williamsburg, but I would avoid going with the children.  It's quite pricey, and my kids were always bored. The Williamsburg winery, is right near you and worth a visit. If you're into shopping, the outlet center is also there. It is huge. There's also the Williamsburg Pottery.
The children and adults will also enjoy The Mariners Museum in Newport News.  They reconstructed the Monitor and have relics from the Titanic. In Hampton, there's the Air and Space Museum and then in Norfolk, in addition to the sailing excursions, you have Naticus, the National Maritime Museum, which also houses the USS Wisconsin.  All the aforementioned museums are hands-on fun for kids, and adults truly enjoy them also. On to Virginia Beach, where I live.  Don't miss our boardwalk and the Virginia Aquarium.  It's a must. Lots of golfing, especially in Williamsburg. I suggest you purchase an Entertainment Book for the Norfolk/VaBeach area. It also includes Williamsburg etc.  All the museums, golfing, Busch Gardens, etc. have 2 for 1 coupons, as well as food discounts. If you purchase it after January, I believe it's half price. Check on line for the Jamestown 2007 Exposition activities.  There's a complete listing of different events.  Enjoy.  I know you will have a wonderful time.  Hope this information helped.
