Another person with similar questions about relocating to the VA Beach area! We are in the NYC area and my husband may be tranferred down there. he would be working in the World Trade Center in Norfolk. We have 2 small children - 9 and 5. We love the beach (he grew up on one!) Given these variables, could you recommend some towns/neighborhoods to look at? We would be interested in family friendly areas with good schools, but a decent commute. Wouldn't mind water access too! thanks so much,
Reagan
Answer Hi Reagan,
Well, let's see: family friendly communities, good schools, easy water access, decent commute = Virginia Beach.
There are many different neighborhoods to explore that will accomodate your needs. Some that I am very familiar with are: Great Neck area, Alaton area, and Cape Henry. They are all family oriented communities, fantastic schools, great recreational facilities, easy water access and about a twenty minute commute by car to downtown Norfolk. In the south section of city, the country as we refer to it, are all newer commuities, the only difference is the commute will be about ten to fifteen minutes longer. Areas to check would be: Lago Mar and Red Mills. Virginia Beach is a city school district, but in no way like NYC. I am originally from New York, and love it here. Another area city to explore is Chesapeake. Also family friendly, and the commute would also be about 20 minutes. David Wright of the Mets is from Chesapeake. Your family will love the area. Please feel free to ask any other questions. Hope this helped, and good luck with your move.
