Question
I will be retiring next year and am considering Virginia Beach (area), Anaplois, Md or Willimsburg.
I want to be near the water in a community with people aged 55-65. My wife past away last year so I am interested in a community where I can meet similiar people (but do not want an old age community). I would be looking for a house in the 300-400 range. I am now in NY and look forward to warmer weather and a more civilized living style.
Any advice you can give would be helpful. Thanks

Answer
Hi Ken,
I cannot give you any information about Annapolis, MD, since I live in Virginia Beach.  Williamsburg is inland, you will not be on the water.  Williamsburg does get snow, and it can get cold. It is quite pricey, but a very nice area.  Virginia Beach, the largest city in Virginia, is on the water, has a milder winter than NY, and rarely gets any snow. I'm originally from NY, and truly enjoy the area. Down here, the taxes are much lower, so you get more for your money.  I would suggest you visit the area, concentrate looking in the Shore Dr area.  All the major realtors are down here, so you can probably check with a realtor in NY. Checking on line, try William B. Woods realty. Condos and town houses are the thing down here. Some are in large buildings, most are in 3 story building, set up as communities. A diversity of people of all ages. Recreation and interests groups are numerous in this area. Lots of singles of all ages. I believe you would be very comfortable in this supportive setting, while enjoying the water. Some communities to check, Lesner, Lynnhaven Beach, Ocean Shores, Ships Watch etc. You need to first investigate the area, to see if it meets your needs. If you need additional information regarding specific areas in Virginia Beach, please feel free to contact me again. Hope this information helps. It was the best move we ever made, moving down here.
