Subject: 1978 VW Convertible - "Champagne Edition"

Question
Hi Ron, I think I have one of the 2000 1978 last 1st editions before the 1979's.  It's go the the door pinstrips and the tell tail interior with the triple white top, interior and exterior paint.

Some say it's worth 15K.  I bought from the original owner.

I having problems with the speedo..  Same deal as you answered before whirling noise as I excel.

I donot want to mess around with fixing I'd like a replacement.  I can't find one.  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Ron,

You can find out if it's a champagne edition by the following characteristics:

1) It has intermittent wipers, when you pull the lever all the way down.

2) It came with a clock by the light switch.

3) Most came with factory air conditioning.

The value in pristine condition is between 15-19K.

If the speedometer is making a noise (and you are sure it's not that black box for the EGR light by the left front trunk hinge), and you want to replace it, replace the cables as well:

Take Care,

Ron
