Subject: Converting an eternally regulated alternator with an internally alternator on a 1975 super beetle

Question
Which wires are tied together at the external regulator of a 1975 super beetle in  order to use an internally regulated alternator kit? I am using an original volkswagen service manuel for this model year.

Answer
Hi Henry,

This is a fairly straight forward process.  However, there are two ways to do this.

Your best bet is to contact the company you purchased the alternator from (with the internal regulator).  They should have included instructions on how to bypass the unneeded regulator.

It is not complicated, but I don't want to give you the wrong scenario.

Insist on the directions, they are supplied with every bosch alternator.

Let me know if you have any problems getting them for your model number.

Ron
