Subject: Rear Windshield Defogger

Question
Hello,

I own a 1998 VW Golf and recently the defogger on the rear windshield stopped working. I checked the fuse and it looks perfectly fine. The button light of the defogger turns on but it's not working. Any ideas or tips would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Answer
Take a multi-meter and check for voltage at the rear window and check continuity across the element.  If continuity is not there, you can get a repair kit.  You need to find out where the break is.  If voltage is not there, then you'll need to trace out the break in the harness.  It could also be a bad ground.
