Question THIS MORNING THE EXHAUST EMISSION WARNING LAMP CAME ON IN MY BEETLE. CAN YOU TELL ME WHY THIS HAPPENS AND IS IT SERIOUS? I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE GARAGE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT IN ON MONDAY TO HAVE IT CHECKED, BUT TO GO AHEAD DRIVING UNTIL THEN.
Answer Margaret,
Do not worry, it is safe to drive until Monday. I am guessing that it is an oxygen sensor, or simply a circuit that needs to be replaced.
There is no risk of exhaust leaking in your car, nor will your car be damaged.
Just make sure you bring it in ASAP so you don't forget about it and prevent further damage.
