Question
Do you know any engine rebuilders close to pittsburgh,pa?I have a 78 bus.

Answer
Bob,

I do not, however, I can recommed the best VW rebuilder I have come in contact with over the last 20 years.

I live on the East Coast, he is on the West Coast.  However, this is what this guy does:

1) Paints the motor the color you want it.

2) Upgrades it to last for the long-haul

3) CALLS you (yes, it's true) so you can hear your motor running over the phone.

4) Has the most inexpensive prices I have seen to date.

I have recommended many people to him, all who have some funky-colored engines, and large smiles.

Here's the info:

Bears Engine Rebuilding
Owner: Butch
Phone Number: 619-691-8385

I will have no problem if you want to use my name.  You may get a break, as I'm currently ordering one from him now, as I'm bogged down with rebuild projects.

Just tell him Ron Wolff in NJ referred you.

I don't often praise vendors, I just provide the information, however, he is an exception.  Never met the guy, but he has a passion for the job, and you will be happy with the service.

Finally, shipping is not as expensive as you think.  He will give you his shipping discount.

Good luck whomever you choose, but VW craftsmen are few and far spread.  He, by far, is the best I have yet to see.
