Volkswagen/Intermittent clutch problem

Hello.

I'm a complete amateur, but I wondered if this might help....

I had a clutch cable replaced (by the RAC roadside service!).

Operation continued OK for a while, but then I experienced the same problem. (I had never experienced the problem before!)

My friendly local garage had a 5-minute look, fiddled round with the auto-adjustment fitting at the lower ed of the cable, and problem solved!

BUT....

It happened again a few miles later - I personally fiddled around with the auto-adjustor, and prblem solved - for a few miles.....

Logical analysis (by a complete amateur, I remind you!) suggests that the cable is being pinched somewhere, and is not releasing properly - hence the description of resetting itself.

When the RAC man fitted the new cable, he had to remove the windscreen wiper mechanism, to thread the cable down to fir on to the clutch pedal. My suspicion is that re-fitting the w/w mechanism may hve pinched or kinked the cable. That could explain it.

I'm off to read my Haynes manual, and probably next week take it down to my garage for a longer look.....

But, sorry to Ron, it doesn't seem likely to be a matter of adjustment - it's virtually an all-or-nothin situation.

Regards,

Derek
