Question hi..low beams refuse to come on..1988 vw gulf...replaced bulbs
..no luck..replaced switch on dash..hi beams come on when i
lift on colum..any sugestions..help!!!

This is usually caused by a short in the switch on the steering wheel (the turn signal).
Unfortunately, it requires removing the steering wheel. The switch is available and the procedure to replace it is in the Haynes manual. Just be aware that it requires a steering wheel puller and a lot of patience.
