I have a 1972 VW Campervan. I am using the service manual from bentley. The book says the nut for the upper mounting bolt is in the engine compartment. question 1 exactly where is it? question 2 is there any way to remove it without the aid of another person? For what it's worth, the engine is a 73. thanks John Diehl

Answer
Yes, it's on the passenger side, on the rear firewall.  It also serves as the engine mounting bolt.

It's low down, and you will need a 17 mm wrench, but once you find it, it is a simple operation with one person.

No problem if it's a 73 motor.
