Subject: what type of coolant or antifreeze do I use?

Question
I have a 2000 jetta vr6 and it has been over heathing so I been putting water but still over heathing.
Is there a special type of coolant or antifreeze I need to use or am I ok with just putting antifreeze?

Answer
You should be using G12.  You can only get it from the dealer, some foreign parts stores and online.  It's better that you only added water as G12 and "green" coolant will turn into a gooey mudlike substance.

The overheating is another issue, perhaps a sticky thermostat.
