Question
I have a 2001 golf 2.0 liter engine and it has a slight miss at stops and when it rains the car misfires, no power and will not stay running. We have changed the spark plugs, and wires.  Any suggestions

Answer
Hi Carolyns;
Yes, possible ignition coil problem.  There could be "carbon tracking" on the central coil tower that bleeds off spark voltage...you may have carbon tracking on only one of the spark plug towers too...either one or the other or both.  More than likely just one or maybe two of the actual spark towers that go to the individual plugs.  If the central tower was fouled, it wouldn't allow the car to start at all.  There is one other possibility, and that is the ignition module...Ie., the hall effect switch in the base of the distributor.  Hope this helps.  Good luck, Carolyns.
