Question Do you know of an online explanation of how to take the roonroof apart properly ? Or could explain it breifly for me. Like how to release the panel itself (remove it) so I can see what went wrong in there. We just bought this Bug, and I work on VW's, just never played with one of these sunroffs before. Thanks, Dennis, Red Bluff, Calif.
Answer Dennis,
Here's how:
- Open the roof about halfway.
- Remove the inside trim piece by prying away from the main panel along the front edge; there are 5 clips holding it.
- Slide the trim piece back all the way.
- You will see both front guides attached on either side of the main panel; remove them with a screw driver.
- Close the roof (all the way forward). You will see the rear guides.
- Unhook the rear guide leaf springs.
- Remove the rear guide lifter pins.
- Remove the panel through the top of the roof.
