Question hi there i have 89 vw van that starts but as soon as i put it into gear to move it dies out or does not have enough power to move, i just raplaced the alternator could that have messed something up or to do u think its a fuel filter or pump or something thanx
Answer Spence,
It is possible you have low fuel pressure, but the list of other possibilities are long. Sorry, I do not know the fuel pressure specs for an 89 VW Van. However, the reason the alternator was replaced may have the answer: Is there low voltage to the ignition system? Before starting the battery should show about 12V. After starting you should see about 14V coming from the alternator.
