Question My 1998 VW GTI VR6 will not start in the morning unless I give it some gas for a few seconds first. And even then it idles really rough. Also, the check engine light is on. I was told to change the throttle body and did. This did not solve the problem. It starts fine later on in the day unless it has been sitting for hours, like say all day while I'm at work. Any ideas?
Answer Hi JC;
My first guess is a "pinhole leak" in the fuel line. I would replace the "o" rings at the fuel inlet at the bulkhead on the right side(from the drivers seat) of the engine bay. Near the "bulkhead," or firewall, there are several quick disconnect fuel, and vapor lines. One is supply, one is return, and one is vapor. Replace the "o" rings in all 3 of these lines, and the problem will probably go away. I'd replace the fuel filter too. Good luck.
