Question I noticed that the stop light on my wife's 99 new beetle was out. Popped the access disk in the trunk, turned the knob but nothing came loose...what am I doing wrong? Thank you, Oscar
Answer Hi Oscar;
You are doing nothing wrong. The light is still "locked" in place by plastic tabs on the housing, under the lip of the opening. Pry the housing out, but don't use the plastic bumper cover for your lever placement. Up near the hatch opening, on the metal of the car...pry...it'll pop out, and I do mean POP. If you don't want to have to buy a new housing too...take it to your local Volkswagen dealer, and let them buy you a new one when yours cracks while "POP ping" out. If it has been in there a long time since the housing has been out, it just might crack, so be a little careful, but not so careful you can't get it out.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
