Question Hi,
I just got my 2003 Jetta (2.0 engine) back from the dealer for an overheating problem. They replaced the water pump and temperature sensor but when I picked it up the EPC light was on. Any idea what would cause this and can a code scanner reset it?
Thanks
Answer Hello John;
This sounds like a "brake light switch" failure in a 5 speed manual transmission car. Please tell me your car has a manual transmission.
A scanner, or code resetting tool will not fix this problem. I'm surprised that a dealer would allow this to get out the door without telling you that this car qualifies for a "campaign," or "recall" replacement of the brake light switch under the "N4 program" guidelines. In fact, this program is actually called the "N4 campaign." Good luck, John. I hope I turn out to be correct.
