Question I've got a 96 Jetta Gl and the sunroof isn't functioning properly. The tilt feature works fine, but when I try to open the sunroof completely it stops once the tilt levels out. Any ideas on what needs fixing?
Answer The sunroof is probably misaligned in the track. Have you ever had the sunroof serviced, and the tracks lubricated? They are a very difficult item to repair, and attention must be paid to lubrication, alignment, and starting position of the motor, and gear set at the front, under the interior light housing. It is also possible that one or the other of the 2 cables that run front to back is broken, or I suppose it's even possible that both of the cables are broken. They sometimes pull out of the fasteners on their ends. Good luck Riley, if you know a good Volkswagen dealer, or specialty repair shop, that's the place to take it. Sorry I can't suggest more, but without having the car here to examine, I don't know if electrical, mechanical, or both. I hope you understand.
