Question QUESTION: Am helping set a 7 team coed schedule on 2 courts and could use some format assistance? Any ideas? Also, actually need the schedule for a 12 week session...
ANSWER: Joyce,
One more team would make it easier but this is the best I can do.....
1 R 1 2 1 3 1 4
2 7 3 R 4 2 5 3
3 6 4 7 5 R 6 2
4 5 5 6 6 7 7 R
1 5 1 6 1 7
6 4 7 5 R 6
7 3 R 4 2 5
R 2 2 3 3 4
This is 7 weeks, everyone plays everyone once. You didn't give me how much time you had the courts for so you could double up schedules or have the "R" team play whoever is on their schedule for the following week. R stands for rest of ref.
I hope this was some help.....if you need anything else feel free to email me again.
Good luck,
Steve

QUESTION: Steve - we have 2 courts for 2 hrs (8-10 pm), for 12 weeks. I don't understand the "R", how you have it listed is confusing for me (Team 1 v Team 2 in week 1?). If you could provide me a bit more clarification, thanks!
Answer Joyce,
Sorry, when I wrote it everything was spaced...
Email me at Fordhamvb@aol.com and I will send you a schedule.
With 7 teams you will have one team with a BYE, or they will ref or they will just rest so that is the "R". So week 1
1 BYE Court 1
2 vs 7 Court 2
3 vs 6 Court 1
4 vs 5 Court 2
Now you have three options for Team 1 they do not play this week, they ref all the games (you save money on refs and the games are fair) or you look at the following weeks schedule and they play the team that has the bye next week.
After 7 weeks everyone has played each other one time. You need to come up with a way to schedule the next 5 weeks. Say you have a two week playoff and championship, that leaves three weeks of games, the fairest way to make the remainder of the schedule is to take the first seven week schedule and put each week into a hat. Then pick out three weeks and that is the last three weeks. This way the last three weeks matches are picked randomly, so no one can get too upset about who they play.
To get a better idea of the numbers from my first answer, separate the first two numbers and that is the column for the first week (1 R). Then separate the second two numbers and that column is week 2 (1 2)...etc.
