Question Hi Steve,
I'm a junior in Hillsboro Oregon and I play for a school league that has one of the worst possible records. I've been playing volleyball since fifth grade and because I'm in advanced classes I don't really have time to play for another school.I desperately want to play college volleyball I'm really worried that scouts might not even consider me, even though I'm currently playing for a pretty good club volleyball team. I know absolutely nothing about Division 1 or college volleyball in general. What do I have to do to get a scouts attention? Thanks for your help!

Answer Sarah,
Your high school volleyball team will not hurt you chances of getting looked at. Most coaches do not even look at HS teams unless they are in the same state or the team is nationally ranked. Make sure you are on a good club team that travels to national tournaments like Vegas or The Colorado Crossroads.
I don't know what position you play so just a general idea of what we look for. You need to be able to execute the skills of the position you play at a high level. Passing and defense are always very important. If you are a setter we want to see that you can set all the sets. A MH we want to see you close blocks and see you hit all the sets a good middle will hit. Go to a local college match and see where you are when watching them. Make a skills tape and send it to schools where you think the education and the sports will fit what you are looking for.
