The Picture!
The picture that you see is my team after winning the 52-team Capitol Hill Classic in February 2008 in Washington DC. We were the only undefeated team in the 15's division. However, they presented our awards to the team that won the SILVER division! haha So the tournament directors had to reorder our medals and our player's MVP trophy, then mail them all to us later!

Question
Hey, my name is Amy and i am probably going to be playing libero this year as a sophmore. Now I was wondering what kind of special training liberos needed and what kind of nutrition should I get.
Please respond.

Answer
Hello Amy!

Thank you for visiting www.allexperts.com!

First, let's talk about training.  You need to pass and dig and pass and dig and pass and dig.  Pass frees.  Pass floaters.  Pass spinners.  Dig the hard hit, dig the tip, dig the roll shot.  You need to feel comfortable on your stomach, comfortable rolling, and STAY OFF your knees.  Don't ask you coach to let you hit/set much, b/c you won't be doing that much in games.

Also try to learn to read the hitters:  Are they going to tip, roll or hit.  Where are they going to hit.  Keep studying hitters.  Your coach can probably give you some tips, but you coach can't, then come back here and ask me!

Positioning is also a key to digging.  If you're standing behind your blockers -- in their "shadow" -- then you're not doing to dig anything but tips and rolls shots.  So get out of the shadow of the block AND try to not have teammates standing between you and the opposing hitter.  I know you can't probably control where your teammates are standing, but if there's a teammate between you and the opposing hitter, then digging is much harder!  Why?  It's b/c you can't see the hitter very well and your teammate will reach up and try to dig balls that are landing in your lap!  grrrrrrrr.  That's upsetting when the person in front of you can't dig a hard driven ball that you could have dug!

Second, you mentioned diet.  If you're not eating fast food much, if you're not eating a lot of crappy snacks, if you eating what both Sesame Street and your 4th grade health teacher taught you to eat, and if you're taking the vitamins that are made especially for female, then you're fine.  Don't change a thing.

I just came back from St Marys Pennsylvania!  WHAT A GREAT CAMP!  Please see the incredible pictures at www.coachhouser.com.  That's our 4th camp.  And we have 3 more to go.  I can't wait!!
