The Picture!
The picture that you see is my team after winning the 52-team Capitol Hill Classic in February 2008 in Washington DC. We were the only undefeated team in the 15's division. However, they presented our awards to the team that won the SILVER division! haha So the tournament directors had to reorder our medals and our player's MVP trophy, then mail them all to us later!

Question
do middle schools have varsity and jv teams

Answer
Good afternoon!

Thank you for visiting www.allexperts.com

I've never heard of middle schools that have teams they call JV or varsity.  I guess, if the school is big enough, they may have a 6th grade team, a 7th grade team, and an 8th grade team.....or some kind of other arrangement like 6th-7th and another team of 7th-8th.

There are several things that stop middle schools teams from having multiple teams:
a) Finding that many quality coaches is hard.
b) Paying that many coaches is hard also!
c) Other expenses mount up:  paying officials, uniforms, equipment.
d) Most middle schools don't have multiple courts & gyms, which would be necessary if there are 2 or 3 teams of one sport.

Most high schools have a JV and varsity team in most sports.  The varsity team is made up normally of the best players, regardless of their age.  So a very good player may play varsity in the 9th grade.  At some schools, she's allowed to play varsity in the 8th grade.

The JV team is for the development of the younger girls who have potential.  A school offers a JV team so that (a) so many girls won't get cut, and (b) the varsity team will be fed with experienced players.  Most JV teams don't keep girls after they reach the 11th grade.  Reason:  If the girl hasn't made varsity by now, she may never make it.  Thus, why cut a 7th or 8th or 9th grader in order to keep a girl who's either underachieving or not a strong player?

I hope that answers your questions.  If not, just ask me again!
