About Tom Houser
Expertise
I can answer any type of volleyball question: school, college, club, coaching, playing, etc. (I am not, however, a athletic trainer! haha)

Can you believe that 25% of the answers that I send to people are never read? It's been really surprising to me. If you're going to take all that time to send me a question, how about taking a few minutes to read it! :) haha I will almost always answer your question within 24 hours.

Then would you please come back and grade my answer!

The Picture!
The picture that you see is my team after winning the 52-team Capitol Hill Classic in February 2008 in Washington DC. We were the only undefeated team in the 15's division. However, they presented our awards to the team that won the SILVER division! haha So the tournament directors had to reorder our medals and our player's MVP trophy, then mail them all to us later!

Volleyball - Want to implement 6-2 offense

Expert: Tom Houser - 6/11/2009

Question
I used an international 4-2 system last year for my girls JV high school team. This year we are moving them up to Varsity, but would like to use a 6-2 this year. Any help locating a coaching clinic or any good resources you know of that would be easy to follow

Answer
Hey Barb:

Welcome to www.allexperts.com!

COACHING CLINIC:  The only ones I know are those that you'll find on the Internet.  I'm sorry that I can't help you more.  I have been to CAP I, and CAP II, and have enjoyed them both; however, I don't remember either of them getting into the details of running any certain offenses before.

I also saw Doug Beale & Bill Neville in 1986 do the Gold Medal Coaches Clinic in Annapolis Md.  I don't think that "company" exists any longer, but they went over 4-2, 5-1, 6-2, etc.  It was pretty awesome as I had just finished my first year of coaching.

If you find a coaching clinic, and are considering sending them a down-payment, please ask how much time do they spend specifically on running offenses.  Pin them down to an answer before you send your money.

GOOD RESOURCES:  Jeeeeze, I've been running a 6-2 off and on for years.  I got most of my hints/ideas from watching video of teams that ran 6-2 offenses.  If you have video of other high school teams that run 6-2, then watch it, study it and I think you'll learn a lot!  I've looked through my "I Can't Wait To Coach Volleyball" ebook at www.coachhouser.com, and there is no article about running a 6-2 offense.

Have you done an Internet search?  I just searched at Yahoo for <"6-2 offense" volleyball drills> and found 1,700 sites.  I didn't look through any of the sites, but maybe you'll find some good stuff there.

SUMMER VOLLEYBALL CAMP:  If your entire team is attending any camp, then make it priority to the coaching staff to teach your team how to run a 6-2 offense.  That'll be their best way to teach it correctly, while you're taking notes on its intricacies yourself!

Thank you for visiting again!  Hope you have a great day and summer!  Please visit me at www.coachhouser.com.  There are so many smiling faces that you'll want to host a "I Can't Wait" camp yourself!  Registration for the 2010 summer will be begin December 1!!
