Expertise
I`ve played volleyball for 22 years and I`ve coached high school volleyball for six years. I help my sister on occasion coach her 16 yr. old USVBA volleyball team as well as the college team that she coaches.

Question
Hi! I am a freshman setter (rarely Outside Hitter), in my first year of playing. I attend a small high school (DIV III), in Sacramento, CA. I was a varsity starter this year, and I am playing club. I am fairly short, 5"4, although I am still 14 years old. I dream of playing college volleyball, but I would love some help as to what will get me there. I have reasearched and know about the recruiting proccess, etc...But, what kind of skills will I need (as a setter?) to be a prospect for a DIV I, II or even III school?
Thank you very much,
Tara Tomicevic

Answer
Tara--

My sister said perfect the skills that you can.  She also said to tell you that there are all different types of colleges out there and to pick the one that meets your scholoastic/career needs, not just your sporting dreams.

We both say seriously work on your serving, accuracy, aggressiveness and placement as well as different types i.e. floater, top spin, jump...

You can help your team by knowing your position inside and out.  Learn to "read" and anticipate what's going to happen before it happens.  This will make you a better defensive player.

Good luck.

Marie
