About Matthew Huthmacher
Expertise
I can handle questions regarding functions of the game, tactics for training, and overall fundamentals regarding both the indoor and outdoor game, (6/2 man teams).

Experience
I have played volleyball for the past 15 years. I started in the sand down in FL, (2-man), and moved indoors for college where I played for one year at Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne under coach Arnie Ball, who in 2000 scouted for the Men's National Team, and transfered to Park University to complete my collegiate career in 1997-2000. Since then, I have played on and off maintaining my skill sets.

Question
Hello, my name is kelley, and i currently play at clermont college ( a junior college in ohio). This year will be my sophomore year,  and after this season i will be needing to transfer to a four year college. As MVP of the conference in 06 many colleges have came in contact with me about transferring, but the minute they hear that i have a 20 month old son contact quickly stops. Im starting to get discouraged, do you have any suggestions about what i should do?

Answer
Kelley-
First of all, let me apologize for taking so long to respond.  I've been extremely busy with work and this site has taken a backseat.
Now, as for your question, I have good news and bad news.  The bad news is...I only have one solution.  The good news?  If a school out there is unwilling to accept that one response...then they're not worth your time.

This is what I mean.  You've done two things thus far that most college recruits can't offer a prospective coach...and if I were you, I'd use that to your advantage.  One, you've proven that you can play ball...and play ball well.  Two?  You've proven that you can play ball well with a bundle of responsibility, to include that wonderful child of yours.  You're settled.  You're focussed.  You're mature.  And you can manage yourself.  You need to take a, "This is me...take it or leave it", attitude and you'd be amazed how many coaches out there will view that 20 month old of yours "Proof" of accomplishment rather than a "hindrance".  Most highschoolers looking to go to college can't offer the maturity that you have.  And quite frankly, each player a coach picks is an investment.  And at the end of the day, the more of a "guarentee" you can stamp on that investment, the more apt they are to make it.
Kelley, you've got tools in your tool bag...you just need to use them.  I hope this helps you.  And I hope that you keep playin...no matter what coaches may say.  You'll land somewhere where you're supposed to be.
Shoot me a line if you have anything else.

Matt
