Question
hi Steve, I'm going to be a jr. this year in high school, and i'm totally pumped about being on varsity. I've been playing since 8th grade, and so much has improved. EXCEPT my passing, I just can't seem to get my pass to the setter. I mean I try pushing the ball, My feet seem to be position right, but I just can't get it where it should go. Any tips?

Answer
Gennie,

It's hard for me to give you advice without seeing you but I will hit some of the usual mistakes and maybe I'll hit one or two.

Try to get in front of the ball and play the ball as much as possible between your knees (meaning your arms should not extend past your knees).  Try to pass the ball with your shoulders squared to your target.  Make sure you turn your wrists downward to push your elbows forward to give you the best passing surface.  Check your arm angle after a pass.  If you pass the ball over the net you may want to raise your arms, if the pass doesn't make the 10' line you may want to drop them slightly.  Keep your eye on the ball until you make the pass.

The best thing to do is start of with easy tosses and pass to a target.  As your passes get better make the tosses more difficult.  The more you pass, the more comfortable you will become passing.

Good luck with your up coming season.
Steve
