Question
I was wondering if you knew of any different techniques for having softer hands when setting the ball. I have been playing volleyball for a long time and I feel that I could improve the quality of my setting but don't know what else to try any ideas or tips would be greatly appreaciated!

Answer
A few things to try...

1. Set a big and/or heavy ball.  Setter training balls help.  Medicine balls are good.  Just as good is a basketball.  Set a bball against a wall until you can't continue.

2. Set from a sitting position.

3. Set with slippery mittens or gloves on.

These will not be comfortable to do.  Do enough of them until you become comfortable doing them.  Then switch to "regular" setting.

Let me know if this helps.
