Question I am coach a social university team, with about 25 players, I have heard of wave drills but have not ever done any my self. They sound like something that i could use. Can you explain to me what they exactly are and give a few examples that i could use. Cheers
Answer Wave drills work great when you have a larger number of people you have to keep involved in practice. My favorite is an offense/defense drill. Initially you set up front row (3) and back row(3), in their specialized positions, ie, middles in the middle, etc....set them up on both sides of the net, this way you can engage 12 players at a time...on one side of the court, form three lines....
i usually enter the ball for them to play out, after 3 balls, i "wave" them thru, back row to front row, front row to the front at the other side of the net, front row to back row, and lastly, the back row out....an option for you would be to "wave" thru on both sides of the net, that way you dont have anyone sitting too long....just have the back row go to the front row and the front row step out and the new group step in (on both sides of the net), the key is to keep them moving. enter balls for them to play out, but keep it rapid....Hope this helps.
