Expert: Ray Niemi Date: 5/14/2008 Subject: Brake lights for 2000 Volvo S80
Question I have a 2000 Volvo S80 and been having problems with my brake lights. The left and right brake lights does not work most of the time but to my amazement the center top brake lights never fails. I heard there is a relay for those but I don't know the location of it. I tried looking for it at the fuse box in the trunk area but all the relays there looks the same. Can you please tell me what's wrong with my brake lights and if the relay is the culprit where is it exactly located at and how does it look like? Thank you in advance.
Answer Norvin,
The relays are in the REM rear electrical module. That is in the trunk left hand side. The cover may have a marking as to location.
RMI 5 is the relay location. I looked for a bulletin for the brake lights and did not find one. You may want to call your dealer and ask about that.
