Expert: Ray Niemi Date: 5/21/2008 Subject: What should be the compression for a 2005 Volvo S40 T5
Question I'm interested in purchasing this car. I had it checked at CAA, and was told that the compression is 125 on all cylinders. They said the compression is too low.
What should the normal compression be?
Thank you.
Answer Dom,
Compression Specifications Normal value 1.1 - 1.3 MPa
The maximum difference between the cylinders: 160-197 psi
must not exceed 0.2 MPa
Note:
Test the compression with the engine at operating temperature and with wide open throttle (WOT)
Applies to engines at operating temperature, wide open throttle (WOT) and starter motor turning at 4.2 - 5.0 r/s (250 - 300 rpm).
