Subject: 88 244dl volvo transfer pump issues

Question
I replaced transfer pump recently with a new carter - in Tank pump. Reason for the replacement:No volume of gas and would stop pumping when hot(95°  ambient). Tested main and and new tank pumps. Everything checks. Going down the road and car dies. Get car back home and check tank pump. No volume/hum(more of a high pitched motor). I checked fuel lines, wiring, relay. My ground of the tank pump is a eyelet in the trunk. I have not checked the 25amp fuse LH by shock tower. Fuse at position 4 & 6 good. The fuel relay is very warm to hot to the touch. Fuel relay needs to be installed for engine to run. Question: would anything premature fail of the tank pump. Voltage at Tank pump is 10.4 with 1.97amp with no sound & volume from tank pump. Thanks. Do appreciate your time.

Answer
Rey,
I also have had some problem with the pre pumps and found that I was getting poor quality pumps and will send them back and look for some better ones. Now when I have had issues with the pre pumps in the past I would install the 740 turbo pumps. They will require you to shorten the pick up tube of your sender. That pump is a higher volume and pressure. I do not think that anything in your vehicle is causing the failures.
