Volvo - 2001 Volvo S-60 P0014 Code

Expert: Ray Niemi - 10/6/2009

Question
QUESTION: On my 2001 Volvo S-60 2.4T obd II Code of P0014 came up. It says Camshaft Position Actuator B-Bank 1 Timing Over Advanced.  How do I fix this problem.

ANSWER: Mike,
There is a way to test that using the Volvo scan tool. It will most likely be the solenoid valve that operates the VVT. Find a shop that has the scan tool and have them check it for you. Or replace the solenoid and see what happens.

QUESTION: 2001 Volvo S-60 2.4T
When I come to a stop, it seems as the transmission goes into a stall, like it is all of a sudden in neutral and when I let off the brake to go, the car jerks. It upshifts very smooth and downshifts very smooth. Only when I come to a complete stop does it seem to stall as if it is not in gear.  Help me out

Answer
Mike,
Best idea is going to a shop that knows the Volvo and has the scan tool to read the codes in the manufactures language and have the abilty to monitor the internal working of the trans. However what you have said seems like the trans is gone. You are not however sure if the software in the control unit is correct or has become corrupted. Just in case you install a trans and find the software is not up to date you may want a second opinion from a Volvo shop.
There is a way with the Volvo scan tool to reset the adaptive ability of the trans so it will relearn it's shifting adaptation. Worst case is a trans and software download.
