Volvo - 2003 Volvo XC90 instrument panel turning off and on intermittently.

Expert: Ray Niemi - 6/16/2009

Question
Hi Ray. I have a 2003 Volvo XC90 and I've been having problems with my
instrument panel lights going on and off intermittently. When I'm driving,
there are times the instrument panel lights would go out and all my gauges
together with my speedometer would not function. I will be driving like 60
mph and the speedometer needle would still be at zero. Same goes for my
gas gauge; when this happen it would not give me any fuel level. Also, when
the lights do come back everything would be okay except that the message
box will say "warning SRS immediate service required". I've checked my fuses
but everything is okay. What do you think my problem is Ray? Does it have
something to do with the small black relays that are in the trunk area? If you
think that it's the relay which one is it do you think? You're help is greatly
appreciated. Thank you so much Ray.

Answer
Norvin,
Checks grounds under the dash also the power leads to see that they are plugged in and tight. You might check with the dealer to see if there is an updated program that can be loaded into the DIM. The relays in the rear I am not sure they have anything to do with the DIM they usually are for the lamps in the rear. Drivers information module.
