Question Tried to remove rotor hub on 1992 940 Volvo. Haynes manual says pull out the cotter pin and unwind the castle nut. Problem is, under the grease cap I didn't see a cotter pin and the nut is recessed inside the hub flange. Don't have a big enough socket for the nut. What am I missing here?
PS -- the project is to replace a stripped lug stud (screw) on the rotor. This is the combined rotor hub setup.
Any advice appreciated.
Answer Hello Allen! You have a newer style hub with ABS. There is no cotter pin. It is a sealed hub unit. You will need the correct socket to remove it. Although you shouldn't have to remove the hub to replace the stud. The stud is easily replaceable with the correct tools. I would suggest you have a qualified Volvo technician take care of it.
