Question
My A/C works for a time then stops cooling. Freon okay.  I located a comment from a Swedish nessage board concerning  a sensor on the left side of the evaporator, located to the right and behind the pedals. This sensor malfunctions allows the valve to freeze up and must tharw the ice before the unit will work again.  A Volvo dealer service manager had no idea what I was talking about and wanted to do all sorts of diagnostics for big $$$$.  Any comments

Answer
Jean, Some of these message boards have nothing but crack pots or amatuer clowns that think they know what they are doing.  From what you are telling me, this is a common problem we see all the time.  The gap between the clutch on the compressor and the pulley has become too wide so the clutch needs to be reshimmed.  The dealer will want to sell you a new compressor but we do this almost everyday because of the Florida heat.  I would call the dealer to see if they provide this service.  If not, find a Volvo specialist shop that will.  Roger
