Volvo Repair - heater matrix

Expert: Roger Patricio - 5/11/2009

Question
I have a 1999 Volvo V70 wagon purchaed a few months ago in summer. Air con works great but no heat. 2 heater hoses are connected to the firewall but are disconnected at the other end, just hanging loose. One mechanic has said probably the heater matrix was faulty so it was bypassed as very time consuming and expensive to replace. Is there no other way around this to achieve heat to passenger compartment?
Thanks
Michael

Answer
Michael, not sure why he said it was expensive and time consuming.  Its not.  There is no other way to acheive heat without the heater core.  The core was probably leaking and the previous owner didnt want to fix it.  I would get a real Volvo mechanic to take a look. Should be no more that $400 to repair.  Roger
