Question
99 V70 with 84,000 miles. none turbo, ETS light comes on . changed fuel filter for starters. Whats next? Can I use a scanner to check codes. Light does not stay on all the time but when it is the car serges.

Answer
First, I'm sorry for the delay getting to your question.  I have been orlando for the past few days for XC90 V8 traingin and have been unable to take emails.

ETS is the electronic throttle system.  There is no throttle cable.  The car uses a pedal sensor to determine driver input, and a motor to move the throttle plate.  There are 2 signals coming from the throttle pedal sensor for safty reasons.  The ETS light somes on when one of those signals has failed and it is running on the backup signal only.  Take the car into a shop immedietly.  It is a potentially dangerous situation.  The sooner the better.
