This is a common problem on the V70 XC Cross Country Wagon. The transfer Case or Bevel gear bearings wear out and the transfer case is shot. Check the output shaft bearing on the Bevel Gear or transfer case. Grab the driveshaft and check for play, I'll bet this is your problem

I had a similar problem with my V70 GLT. Nothing I did made a difference... changing from winter to summer tires, fixing worn motor mounts, etc...

Then I performed my own oil change. I ran into several problems, which shows poor quality service from my Volvo dealer. First, the oil drain plug had the incorrect size gasket, and was torqued on so tightly that the gasket deformed (severely) and required unusual effort to remove. Once off, it became obvious that the gasket would never be removed from the oil drain plug, and I had to buy a replacement. I couldn't get the oil filter off either, it was torqued on so tightly! I ended up putting cheap oil in for the next couple thousand kilometers, and will go in to an oil change shop to get them to remove the oil filter.

Getting to the point, when I emptied out the oil in my car, I got BARELY half of what should have been in there. I know many will blame me for not checking the oil daily, but I do my own oil changes during the summer and bring my car for service to a Volvo dealership during the winter. There are no oil spills in my parking spot at work, nor in my driveway. My car passes the Ontario Drive Clean emmisions tests with flying colors. So my only conclusion is that the dealer didn't put the proper quantity of oil in my car.

And guess what, when I did my oil change, and put the PROPER quantity of oil in the engine, my vibrations stopped.

My advice then, would be to check your oil level to see if it may be causing your vibration issues.
