I spend at least three weeks a year down in WDW, and wish I could spend more... My wife and I spent our honeymoon there, and every anniversary since... ask me virtually anything, from the voices that do the narration on a ride to which side of the boat to ride in to see the most in Pirates of the Carribean... also can give you some firsthand examples of how the Magic really works...

Walt Disney World - 2009 Marathon..unexpected

Expert: Thumper D - 9/17/2008

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I have a quick question in reference to the 2009 Marathon. I just recently booked a trip to disney with a group of friends. We will be going down Jan 9 - 14. After doing some research on random things, I stumbled upon the dates of the 2009 marathon AFTER booking the trip. They are the 8 - 11. I have no clue what this means. Will the park be open during those dates. Should I expect large crowds/cancelled activities/closed parks. Just wanted to know if the marathon weekend is going to effect our stay. especially since there are 3 people in my party which makes this their first trip to Disney :) THANKS IN ADVANCE AND I APPRECIATE ANY HELP/INFO AT ALL!!!

ANSWER: Jay,

By and large, relax... you are cool.. there are no park closings or postponings for the Marathon... the crowd situation might be a bit hectic, but, compared to a summer or holiday season, you will hardly notice the swell.... it's not going to affect your stay or your fun, and, as a matter of fact, it's kinda fun to be present when the marathoners come thru one of the parks... cheer for them, wave, then just go back to what you were doing...

Anything else I can help with, let me know, especially for your first-timers! I can point out some special stuff that will make their first time even more memorable..

(We have the disney dining package so we can eat almost newhere) thanks again for your response and advice :)

Answer
Jay...

I need to know a couple of things before I can start making recommendations... one - what are the ages of the people in the group, and two - where are you staying while you are down there...

Once I know this, I can start making my list for you... LOL

Keep the Magic Alive,

Thumper
