How to Get What You Want in Life - question please

Question
hello

we talked before & I have to remind you with my question & answer here it is ;

Hopefully I have understood your issue correctly. You have a degree in engineering but feel drawn to a more creative career.

You have several options from my view.

1. Follow a career in engineering and take up the creative path in your free time. This could be as a hobby or studying or even building your own creative business.

2. Follow your creative path to try and make some money, using your degree as a general entry point for employment, even if it is not specific.

3. Use the knowledge you have aquired to work for your self in a chosen creative field.

4.Combine your creative and engineering skills to find a job or business that suits them both.

The important thing to remember is that you are only 23 and just because you have completed a degree in one subject it does not mean you have to follow that path for the rest of your life. Many people come to realise that a path they have chosen is the wrong one and then they change. It may require a lot of hard work but it can be done.

Of the options above 3 is probably the most risky as you would have little or no income for some time. 1 and 4 are possibly the most practical, 2 may yield little if your degree is seen as totally irrelevant.

I cannot say what jobs would fit or suit you but with the skills, education and motivation you seem to have I am sure you will do well. Keep yourself open to opportunities, search the internet for jobs that  give the right mix for you and talk to people. You may be surprised at  what comes up. Importantly don't give up, believe in yourself and work hard.

I hope that gives you some ideas to get you started. Good luck!

Jacky

Answer
Hi AJ,

As a coach I can only help you to see options open to you and help you work through your options.

I do not know your skills or abilities apart from what you have said. As I said before about the choice you have made as being quite practical for your circumstances there is little for me to add, you have chosen something that you believe fits with both your creative side and your engineering degree. Now you just have to go out there and fulfil your dream.

I wish you good luck in your career and sorry I cannot help you further with this.

Jacky
